Some broken bones are just harder to heal than others. Up to 10% of fractures may show delayed healing, and some may not heal at all (a process called non-union).Difficulty in bone healing may be due to risk factors such as:
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • Osteoporosis
  • Older age
  • Anemia
  • Distal fracture location
  • Comminuted fracture (more than 2 pieces)
  

In only 20 minutes, you can painlessly stimulate bone regrowth at the fracture site with LIPUS (Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound). 

LIPUS is a relatively new tool for accelerating fracture healing of fresh fractures and non-unions. It is a noninvasive ultrasound technology worn directly against the skin, which sends ultrasound pulses through the tissue to stimulate the bone to heal. 

Research has found that using LIPUS for fresh fractures showed significant improvements in time to fracture healing. LIPUS is also useful in the treatment of challenging, established non-unions.

LIPUS is only available by prescription by a doctor.  If you are a patient, ask your surgeon if you are a candidate for LIPUS.
