Trauma Clinic

The Orthopedic Trauma Clinic is designed to provide initial consultation with an orthopedic surgeon for the management of recent bone and soft tissue injuries such as fractures, dislocations, and tendon ruptures that have a high likelihood of requiring urgent surgery.

This clinic allows patients that are able to safely return home from the doctor's office or emergency department see an orthopedic surgeon for a consultation within the next day or two.  This helps avoid lengthy waits and crowding in the emergency departments.  Patients must be referred by a physician or nurse practitioner.

The Orthopedic Trauma Clinic is on weekdays, Monday to Friday, with the exception of statutory holidays.  All patients for the clinic are expected to arrive between 7:30am - 8:00am.  Patients are encouraged to not eat or drink anything from midnight prior to the appointment.  In some rare instances, patients have been able to have surgery on the same day as their consultation with the orthopedic surgeon.  It is more common to have surgery within a few days of the consultation.

Patients are encouraged to wear clothing that will easily allow for examination of their injured extremity.  This includes shorts or loose fitting pants for lower extremity injuries and tank tops or similar for upper extremity injuries.
