We at Central Alberta Orthopedics are leaders in our field when it comes to therapeutic and diagnostic musculoskeletal injections.
We offer both traditional an image guided injections - performing hundreds of injections per year. We offer both intra-articular and soft tissue injections with a variety of different products.
Why injections at Central Alberta Orthopedics?
At Central Alberta Orthopedics, we focus on the multidisciplinary delivery of care. As such, we have a team of physicians that provide injections that include orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians and physiatrists. We have a breadth of knowledge and experience and interests - we follow new developments, study the available literature and provide the best evidence-based care.
We don't just inject. Before having an injection through our injection clinic, we review your symptoms, examine the affected body part, review any x-rays, MRIs or Ultrasounds you've had. We then give you information on what the best injection is for you.
After your injection, if needed, we will provide rehabilitation recommendations as well as see you in follow-up to make sure you have had a positive result.
If an injection is not the best option for you, we will provide recommendations and referrals to the practitioner that can help you best - including surgical consultation if necessary.
Is an injection right for me?
This is a very common question. You may have already had an injection that did not work - or someone close to you may had a negative experience.
Only you can decide if an injection is right for you. Our specialists can and will guide you as well as provide alternative treatments.
Our first goal is to provide pain relief. However, we use injections to guide diagnosis and further treatments as well. For example, your pain may be referred pain - like pain originating in your neck, but giving you symptoms around your shoulder. This can be quite common. In this case, a shoulder injection that "doesn't work" may mean that you need treatments for your neck. As well, sometimes injections that no longer provide pain relief may mean that your condition has progressed and you need a different management plan.

Why don't you provide stem cell treatments?
Stem cell therapy has been prohibited by Health Canada unless as part of a research study.
Before this policy was in place, we at Central Alberta Orthopedics came to the same conclusions as Health Canada - that there is a lack of concrete evidence to promote the use of stem cell therapy. We thus have never provided this treatment.
We do, however, follow the evolving literature and should this eventually prove to be a safe and effective procedure we will re-evaluate our decision at that point.
Do I have to pay for injections?
Most injections are uninsured services. Although our health care system covers most of the costs associated with your medical care, certain injections are not covered.
However, if you have private health insurance, you may have coverage that will reimburse you for your expenses.
We do offer competitive pricing for our injections and always make sure you know the costs before proceeding.
