Bone Health Liaison Clinic
The Bone Health Liaison Clinic is the first of its kind in Alberta.
Our goal is to identify patients with low bone density (osteopenia or osteoporosis) as well as risk factors for falling (poor balance, muscle weakness or imbalance) and provide advice on preventing further fractures.
We are currently selecting high risk patients from our own cast clinic - these are patients above the age of 50 with a fracture that happened as a result of a ground level fall.
We are a multidisciplinary clinic - we at Central Alberta Orthopedics are happy to collaborate with our Bone and Joint Health Coordinator from the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, our Fracture Liaison physicians, as well as our exercise therapist. Patients having in-person assessments receive a personalized teaching session, a comprehensive assessment of their bone health with recommendations on supplements and medications as well as a strength and balance assessment with recommendations on exercise programs.
Although this clinic is geared towards in-house referrals, we can accept high-risk patients on a case-by-case basis.
