Ultrasound Guided Injection Services

Central Alberta Orthopedics' Ultrasound Guided Injection Clinic utilizes ultrasound guidance to perform procedures to treat pain due to joint, tendon, ligament, nerve, and other musculoskeletal conditions. Ultrasound guidance improves the accuracy of delivering medications into the targeted structure, while avoiding hitting nerves, joint cartilage, or surrounding vascular structures. This ensures patient safety and comfort and improves the effectiveness of the procedure.

While we do accept referrals for isolated and targeted injections (for example - RIGHT knee injection with cortisone), we also accept referrals where the type and location of injection is yet to be determined.

Below is a list of various injections we are able to provide:

  • PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
  • Hyaluronic Acid and variants (Monovisc, Cingal)
  • Anti-inflammatory injections (cortisone or ketorolac)
  • Prolotherapy
  • Myofacial Trigger Point
  • Nerve Block

Please note, stem cell therapy has been prohibited by Health Canada unless as part of a research study.  Before this policy was in place, we at Central Alberta Orthopedics came to the same conclusions as Health Canada - that there is a lack of concrete evidence to promote the use of stem cell therapy.  We have never provided this treatment.  We do, however, follow the evolving literature and should this eventually prove to be a safe and effective procedure we will re-evaluate our decision at that point.
